Forme 03 / Detection and answer

An alarm is worth nothing if nobody is awake to hear it.

Nobody should be buying a screen to stare at. What gets bought here is three things working as one: an agent close enough to the machine to read what a program is actually up to, a layer filing that finding beside every other finding in the shop, and a person on shift who makes the call at four in the morning. Each line locked into this forme carries the lot.

What the agent actually reads

A register of previously bad files ran out of usefulness some years ago. SentinelOne watches conduct instead. Which process started which. What got opened, and what got written. Where a connection was aimed. Whether the overall shape of it reads like encryption, like harvesting, or like a stranger having a wander. None of that wants a live connection, so the laptop stuck in a departure lounge and the old machine at the back of the stockroom both keep their own counsel.

Fluency files each of those findings beside the others: sign in records, mail movement, network traffic, logs out of tools already on your bill. A finding reaching our desk therefore reaches it surrounded. Surrounded is what separates a notification from a fix.

A finding reaching our desk reaches it surrounded. That is the whole trick.

Picking a line

The first sorts and advises. The second takes several sources at one time, so a sign in from an odd country, alongside a process behaving oddly on a counter machine elsewhere, stop turning up as two unconnected curiosities. The third isolates and reverses on its own authority, which is the property earning its keep at two on a Sunday.

Nodes carry prices of their own, and on purpose. A node is a different animal from a laptop. The agent behaves unlike itself on one. Rolling nodes quietly into a machine count would have your invoice telling a small lie. Count the nodes. Leave the pods alone.

Specifications and rates

Figures underneath come straight from billing when this page opens. Whatever you set falls into the composing stick and sits there until you are done reading.

Managed Detection and Response

SentinelOne at the machine, Fluency filing the evidence, engineers on shift

The agent reads conduct where the conduct happens, so a laptop with no route home still makes up its own mind. Cross the line and a Fortify 24x7 engineer takes it from there. What you receive is one sentence saying what to do, not a graph to puzzle over.

  • Windows, macOS and Linux, each judging on its own evidence while offline.
  • Sorting, digging and escalation all happen at our desk, never bounced back.
  • Every case and its outcome legible from the account page at any hour.

Extended Detection Across Layers

SentinelOne, with Fluency reading identity, mail and network alongside

Detection widened. A sign in out of somewhere improbable, and a peculiar process on the till machine, arrive inside one picture instead of two, which is the only arrangement under which anybody ever joins them up.

  • Machine evidence set beside sign in records, mail traffic and network movement.
  • Findings no single agent could reach from its own vantage point.
  • Raw material kept longer, because some questions get asked weeks afterward.
Set onSentinelOne, filed together by Fluency
PrintsOne case assembled out of several sources
Standing typeA longer keep across every source that is connected

Extended Detection with Response

SentinelOne, cutting a machine loose and putting it right unprompted

The widened line with hands attached. Once the threshold is crossed, the machine is isolated and rolled back while an engineer still reads the case. That counts for most during the hours when nobody is anywhere near the counter.

  • The machine leaves the network under its own steam once conviction is firm.
  • What a convicted process altered is undone wherever the system permits.
  • No automatic move goes unread; somebody reviews each one afterwards.
Set onSentinelOne with response turned on
PrintsContainment, followed by a written account of it

Locked byThe Fortify 24x7 shift, whatever the clock says

Managed Detection, Kubernetes Node

SentinelOne, keeping an eye on container workloads at run time

Detection for containers, priced per node, so the invoice agrees with what your platform engineer already counts. Pods churn all day long. Nodes are the thing being paid for.

  • A single agent to each node, covering whatever gets scheduled onto it.
  • Run time conduct rather than an image scan and a crossed pair of fingers.
  • Same shift, same sorting, same case trail as the machine lines.
Set onSentinelOne for Kubernetes
PrintsRun time findings out of the workloads on that node
Standing typeA node agent that outlives the churn beneath it

Extended Detection, Kubernetes Node

SentinelOne on the node, with Fluency wiring it to the estate

Node detection carrying the filing as well, so cluster activity sits beside the account which reached it and the laptop that account signed in from. One account of events rather than three.

  • Node evidence set beside sign in records, machine events and network flow.
  • Findings running from a workload out to whichever account touched it.
  • A longer keep, holding cluster and machine sources together.
Set onSentinelOne for Kubernetes, filed together by Fluency
PrintsOne case running across cluster, account and machine
Standing typeA longer keep across every source that is connected
Locked byThe Fortify 24x7 shift, whatever the clock says

Response Tier, Kubernetes Node

SentinelOne, stopping a misbehaving workload without being asked twice

A node line carrying response as well, for a cluster running something you cannot leave misbehaving until somebody unlocks the shop.

  • Automatic action the moment a workload crosses the threshold.
  • A filed case drawn together out of cluster, account and machine evidence.
  • Each automatic move read by a person and written up for you.
Set onSentinelOne for Kubernetes with response turned on
PrintsContainment, followed by a written account of it
Standing typeA response threshold agreed once and then left in place

Where this forme stops

Detection is a fine control and a poor guarantee. Marked up here is what the six lines cannot cover, which is how you work out what else the shop needs.

  • stetDetection is not prevention. Naming an intrusion is an agent telling you that one has already begun. What this sells is the speed of what happens next. Nobody, here or anywhere else, sells the other thing.
  • delHardware outside the fleet is invisible. Hardware that never enrols emits nothing at all. It features in no case. No line here covers it.
  • trReversal is not a copy. On systems that allow it, the third line restores what a convicted process had changed. A dead disk stays dead, and yesterday version of a spreadsheet stays gone. Both belong on the copies forme.
  • wfWhat you sell online is out of scope. A defect in the shop code itself never reaches an agent sitting on a counter machine. Reviewing that code is another trade, and we will hand you on to it.
  • spNode lines stop at the node. Cluster layout, role bindings, where secrets live, what admission will accept: all of it stays yours. Ask and you get a view. You keep the wheel.
